Debris Removal
We recently reached a major milestone in L.A.’s recovery effort – the completion of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Private Property Debris Removal (PPDR) program for those who opted in – nearly a year ahead of expectations.
Overall, debris removal is 99% complete in Pacific Palisades. Fewer than 30 residential and commercial parcels are at various stages of the debris removal process, including the Palisades Bowl, which received an abatement letter from the L.A. Department of Building and Safety (LADBS) last week.
The City successfully applied for special inclusion from FEMA for the Army Corps to clear more than 80 parcels that would not have originally been included in the Private Property Debris Removal program, including:
- Palisades Library and Palisades Rec Center
- Theatre Palisades
- 65 residential parcels, including Malibu Village and Tahitian Terrace
- Eight schools
- Six commercial properties near schools
- Palisades Presbyterian parking lot
Rebuilding
Despite misinformation, rebuilding continues in Pacific Palisades:
- 1,405 plan check applications submitted for 784 unique addresses
- 659 rebuilding plans approved for 380 unique addresses
- 746 plan check applications at various stages of review
- At least 180 homes confirmed to be actively under construction
