In a move long anticipated by motorists, Temescal Canyon Road reopened Wednesday north of Pacific Coast Highway for the first time since January’s Palisades fire.
Los Angeles City Councilwoman Traci Park announced the reopening with a video on Instagram, noting that the route was used over the last six months as a staging area for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during fire-debris removal operations.
“They moved over a million tons of fire debris right through this corridor through the Pacific Palisades,” Park said. “With its closure for the last seven months, obviously that has impacted the flow of traffic in and around the Palisades area. And now with schools just on the brink of reopening in the Palisades, we could not be any more excited to finally have Temescal Canyon back open.”
Park noted that the reopening of a street may not seem like a major accomplishment, but in the wake of the devastating wildfire, “every single little step forward feels like a really big deal.”
